Chabi / Cabung was given the scientific name of Lapeirousia jacquinii. The genus Lapeirousia was described by clergyman and botanist Pierre André Pourret (1754-1818) who named the genus in honour of his friend, the botanist Philippe-Isidore de Lapeyrouse (1744-1818) a French naturalist who was particularly interested in the flora of the Pyrenees.
